HCM CITY — The country’s glorious history, revolutionaries and soldiers are featured in a series of new documentary films being released on Việt Nam Television (VTV).
The screening celebrates the 77th August Revolution (August 19, 1945) and National Day (September 2, 1945) holidays.
Con Đường Thời Đại (Revolutionary Path), produced by VTV, includes four episodes featuring the August Revolution in 1945 -- one of the greatest landmarks in modern Việt Nam’s history, marking the end of French colonialism and the beginning of an independent Việt Nam.
The series includes historical events, reports, and commentaries by historians and cultural researchers about people across the country, led by President Hồ Chí Minh and Việt Minh (the League for the Independence of Việt Nam), standing up in a democratic revolution to overthrow the French colonialists, the Japanese fascists and their local puppet regimes.
The film includes the footage of President Hồ when he read the Declaration of Independence, announcing the birth of the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam, at a mass demonstration of the Hanoians on Ba Đình Square on September 2, 1945.
“We hope young people will learn more about their country’s heroic history after watching our film,” said Tài Linh, one of the film’s three directors.
Revolutionaries of Cao Bằng Province, the first members of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, are featured in a film called Những Người Con Nơi Cội Nguồn Cách Mạng (People from the Cradle of Revolution).
The film highlights the life and career of revolutionary fighter Hoàng Đình Giong, a son of Cao Bằng, the cradle of Việt Nam’s revolution.

Giong and his colleagues worked with President Hồ in Pác Bó Cave of Cao Bằng -- where the president returned to the homeland after 30 years abroad to find the way to save the country.
Produced by the Centre of Documentary Films & Reportage, the film will air on VTV1 on September 2.
Những Anh Hùng Thế Kỷ XX (National Heroes in the 20th Century) is a TV series featuring national army heroes such as La Văn Cầu, Khuất Duy Tiến, Tô Văn Đức, Nguyễn Thị Minh Hiền, and Phạm Tuân, who fought in the resistance wars against the French and Americans.
The show highlights bravery, patriotism and peace. It airs at 6:30pm daily on VTV1.
Another film is Việt Nam --Tổ Quốc Nhìn Từ Biển (Việt Nam --The Country of Seas and Islands), a 40-episode documentary series produced by The Centre of Documentary Films and the People’s Cinematography owned by the Nhân Dân (The People) newspaper.
The work features the country’s socio-economic development in different periods starting in the 1980s.
The film also highlights the historical and lawful sovereignty of Việt Nam over the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) and Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.
The first episode of Việt Nam --Tổ Quốc Nhìn Từ Biển is scheduled to be aired daily in the afternoon on VTV starting on September 2. — VNS
