HCM CITY — An online audition contest named “Dreams Come True” that targets to seek Vietnamese musical talents has just been launched in HCM City.

The contest rounds and votes from the audience will all be done online on Youtube over two months. Winners will be announced in February.

To enter the preliminary selection round, contestants should send their audition videos online. Once the videos have been submitted, the jury will select the top 40 candidates to enter the knockout round each week.

Each week the contestants will have to go through a special challenge to gain the right to "survive" to enter the final round, with challenges to be announced at the end of each episode.

Each episode of 60 minutes will be broadcast live on YouTube at 7.30pm every Thursday. In each episode, a number of contestants will be disqualified until eight winners are selected.

The winners will be sent to South Korea for training according to Korean Idol standards and provided support to debut in Korea.

After that, they will continue to receive consultancy from the jury to embark on an artistic career in Việt Nam.

Kim Boo Hyun, representative of Korea’s FY Entertainment, the event’s organiser, said: “This is a tough and competitive contest for contestants to find the best talent for Vietnamese music. The time frame of 7.30pm every Thursday will surely be a familiar time for fans to watch each performance.”

Contestants will receive guidance from a panel of experienced judges in many fields in South Korea and Việt Nam, such as composer Yang Joon Young, choreographer Um Chul Yong and producer Kim Boo Hyun, composer Dương Khắc Linh and singer Phạm Quỳnh Anh.

Phạm Quỳnh Anh said she believes that the contest will be a launching pad for Vietnamese talents both in Việt Nam and South Korea where the Kpop global wave originated.

As one of the experienced collaborators with Korea, Linh said: “I have prepared the most difficult challenges for the contestants. These challenges will help them cultivate many skills and become more mature to become the standard Idol in Việt Nam.” — VNS
