HCM CITY (VNS) — Famous works by Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, Mendelssohn and Franz Lehar will be performed at the A Night of German Music concert at the HCM City Opera House on March 9.

Beethoven's Egmont Overture, which was written as incidental music for Goethe's play Egmont in 1810, will open the concert.

It will be followed by the songs Die Forelle (The Trout), Fruhling (Spring) and Beim Schlafengehen (When Falling Asleep) from Schubert's Vier Letze Lieder (Four Last Songs) for soprano and orchestra, and by Meine Lippen, Sie Kussen So Heiss (My Lips, They Kiss So Hot) from Lehar's musical operatic comedy Giuditta.

The works will be performed by South Korean soprano Cho Hae-ryong.

Mendelssohn is well-known for his Italian Symphony, Scottish Symphony, and his Violin Concerto in E minor.

The HBSO Symphony Orchestra will perform his Symphony No. 3 ("Scottish") in a Minor during the second part of the concert. The symphony was inspired while Mendelssohn was visiting the Holyrood Chapel in Edinburgh.

Tran Nhat Minh, who has been successful with Broadway concerts and soundtracks in recent years in the city, will be the concert's stage director and conductor.

Tickets, priced at VND550,000, 400,000, 350,000, 200,000, and 80,000 for students, are available at the venue at 7 Lam Son Square in District 1. —VNS
