HA NOI — Vietnamese soprano Hien Nguyen – a member of the semi-classic music group Moc Mien, has decided to pursue a solo career with the release of her debut music video La Vie En Rose.
The singer, who is fluent in both English and Italian, decided to perform the famous French song by Edith Piaf because “it is a very beautiful song, which is a favourite of many people of different generations, so I expect my video will be welcomed by audiences,” she said.
The song has been remixed in operatic pop style by composer Duong Cam who has written several hits for other Vietnamese singers including Khanh Linh, Thu Minh and Trung Quan Idol.
According to Cam, it took him a week to consider before he agreed to work with Hien.
“I think that I am daring because there are many singers who have performed La Vie En Rose successfully. So my ‘mission’ was how to remix the song to be a new and fresh version,” he said.
A graduate of English language of the University of Foreign Languages and International Studies, Viet Nam National University, in 2012, Hien Nguyen won a scholarship to study Italian language and culture at the University for Foreigners Perugia in Perugia, Italy.
In 2014, she won first prize at a festival of Vietnamese students in Italy with the song O Mio Babbino Caro. In February 2015, she was selected to perform at the concert Hanoi mit Roma (Ha Noi Meets Rome).
In January 2018, the singer, who is pursuing a master’s degree at the Viet Nam National Academy of Music, won the Golden Medal at the Asia – Pacific Music Festival in Malaysia.
Hien is also the founder of the semi-classic music group Moc Mien, the first of its kind in Ha Noi. After performances in Viet Nam Television’s Favourite Song TV show in April, the four-member group held a concert in celebration of their second anniversary.
