HA NOI — Feature film Dao Cua Dan Ngu Cu (The Island of Aliens or The Way Station) by director Nguyen Hong Anh has been honoured with the Best Story award at the 58th Asia Pacific Film Festival.
Actress Ngoc Thanh Tam, 25, who played the lead role in the film, also grabbed the Special Jury Award for Best Actress.
Another Vietnamese film Co Ba Sai Gon (Miss Saigon) by directors Tran Buu Loc and Kay Nguyen won the Best Costume award.
The festival was held in Taipei, Taiwan (China) from August 31 to September 1.
This year the Vietnamese movie industry presented five movies at the festival, including Co Ba Sai Gon, Dao Cua Dan Ngu Cu, Co Gai Den Tu Hom Qua (The Girl from Yesterday) by director Phan Gia Nhat Linh, Khi Con La Nha (When You’re Home) by director Vu Ngoc Dang and Em Chua 18 (Jailbait) directed by Le Thanh Son.
Dao cua Dan Ngu Cu was honoured with the Special Jury Prize at the Eurasia International Film Festival 2017.
It was also honored with the "Best Film” Award, “Best Actor” for Pham Hong Phuoc and “Best Director of Photography” for People’s Artists Ly Thai Dung at the ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards (AIFFA Award) 2017 in Malaysia. It also was screened on the Vietnam Night at the 70th Cannes Film Festival and during a Vietnamese movie week in Spain in May 2017.
The movie is adapted from writer Do Phuoc Tien’s story titled Dao Cua Dan Ngu Cu (The Island of Aliens) depicting the confusion and uncertainty of the characters on their journey to look for happiness and the meaning of life. — VNS
