HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese horror film Thiết Sơn Tâm Linh has recently been screened in Malaysia and will be shown in Cambodia in December under the name Kumanthong, its producers have revealed.

Negotiations for its release in Laos, Thailand and Singapore are undergoing as well.

Instead of being classified as C18 – films for adults only, Kumathong is labelled P13 in Malaysian cinemas, meaning those above 13 years old can view it.

Premiering on October 8, the film fetched VNĐ6.8 billion (US$293,698), making it the first Vietnamese film with the highest turnover for its sneak show after 7pm. There were 1,000 sneak shows nationwide that evening, also the highest in Vietnamese film history.

Kumathong involves a series of murders caused by a doctor. With a kind appearance and free treatment, he quickly wins the trust of locals. He instills into everyone’s mind mysterious remedies and peculiar treatments.

The film stars many young Vietnamese actors and actresses like Hoàng Yến Chibi, Đinh Y Nhung and Quang Tuấn.

It is being screened in cinemas nationwide. — VNS
