HCM CITY— The contemporary dance Đa Thức (Method), choreographed by Ross McCormack of New Zealand, will be staged in HCM City this weekend.
Đa Thức features ballet and contemporary dance, including hip hop and break-dance.
The dance features the young members of 1648kilomet, a non-profit group that offers dance performances, workshops and programmes for children and young people.
Cancer and choreographer Vũ Ngọc Khải and his partners organised the dance performance.
“We hope to offer audiences a performance with dance pieces that require different techniques,” said Khải.
Ross said he decided to use world music and Vietnamese music from the Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands) in Đa Thức.
Khai studied dance at the Việt Nam College of Dance and Codarts Rotterdam Dance Academy.
He has worked for theatres and dance groups in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Korea and Japan.
“I worked as a dancer and producer for Đa Thức, which also helped me to improve,” said Khải in an interview with media.
Đa Thức features Khải and five young Vietnamese dancers, Lâm Tố Như, Nguyễn Thạch Sang, Nguyễn Quang Tư, Lâm Duy Phương and Nguyễn Duy Thành, who are member of 1648kilomet.
The featured artist will be Như, a graduate of HCM City School of Dance and runner-up at the Vietnamese version of the American reality show So You Think You Can Dance in 2012.
Đa Thức will have two shows at 8pm on Friday and 8pm on Saturday at the Army Theatre on Cộng Hòa Street in Tân Bình District. Tickets are available at ticketbox.vn.— VNS
