HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Folk Arts Association has entered its new term of operation 2020-2025 with a vow to constantly strengthen the preservation of national cultural tradition and folk arts values.
The association made a review of its operations over the past five years and set plans for its new term at its eighth national congress held on Monday in Hà Nội.
More than 300 delegates, representing over 1,400 members from 82 grassroots branches across the country participated in the conference.
They heard a report on assessment of the association's achievements during 2015-2020, in which the organisation highlighted the effective operation and basic completion of strategic tasks assigned by the Party and State.
Accordingly, among the achievements, the association has fundamentally completed a project on the publication and dissemination of Vietnamese folklore and cultural properties, published 2,500 works among nearly 4,000 pieces of research by more than 1,000 members and set up four more branches, bringing the total number of the organisation units nationwide to 82 at grassroots levels, according to Professor Tô Ngọc Thanh, former chairman of the association.
The conference set out key tasks in the new term, specifically focusing on the continuation of research thoroughly following the Party's resolutions on culture, literature and art; strive to collect and research on cultural and artistic works with high ideological and artistic value; extensive development of public arts; continuation and expansion of international co-operation on the basis of preserving and promoting the values of national culture and arts while selectively absorbing the values of humanity and advanced science of foreign countries.
Speaking at the conference, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education, Võ Văn Thưởng, urged the association to continue to accumulate experiences, focus responsibility on organising and effectively implementing more action plans in the new term to harmonise and keep a balance between preservation and development while solving issues related to promoting the values of folk art heritage for sustainable tourism and economic development.
About 13 members were elected to the Executive Board of the eighth term, 2020-2025.
