Tả Mây – a Miền ethnic woman living in Phìn Village in Sa Pa, will reveals how how she and women in her community make their own clothes during the ‘Meet the Artisan’ event on November 28.
HÀ NỘI If you want to learn about embroidery and textiles from ethnic people living in Sa Pa, pop down to Fashion Revolution Vietnam for a discussion with an ethnic artisan tonight.
Taking place from 7-9pm at Hanoi Rock City, 27/52 Tô Ngọc Vân Street in Tây Hồ District, ‘Meet the Artisan’ will feature Tả Mây, a Miền ethnic woman from Tả Phìn Village in Sa Pa.
Tả Mây is one of many Miền women who make their own clothes, passing down their skills to their daughters. A businesswoman and entrepreneur, Tả Mây couldn’t read or write before she has taught herself Vietnamese and English. She has become a figurehead in her community.
Attendees will have have chance to hear her inspiring story and learn how her community make their own clothes. They can also browse her collection of vintage Miền and Mông embroidery and textiles in the one-night-only pop-up shop. The event will also present a short film about Tả Mây’s house.
Tickets cost VNĐ150,000, and 100,000 for students. Proceeds will cover Tả Mây’s travel expenses from Sa Pa. This is a voluntary run event so please offer your support if you can. VNS
