HA NOI — Some important rituals of the ethnic people in the Central Highlands region will be put on display during an event held at the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, in the Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay Town, Ha Noi, this June.
The brotherhood ceremony of the E De from Dak Lak Province will take place on June 23, while the ceremony to pray for good health will take place on June 24.
With the theme A Lullaby from the Central Highlands, the programme will celebrate the cultural diversity and customs of the Central Highlands region.
It will bring in around 90 ethnic people from 12 groups in the region, including the Ta Oi, Co Tu, Raglai, E De and Khmer.
Running during the month, the programme introduces visitors to folk songs and lullabies of the Central Highlanders, as well as cloth weaving and the making of their traditional musical instruments.
A cooking contest, gong performance, sporting events and folk games are also indispensable parts of the month-long event.
Notably, children visiting the village can register for a free training course on experiencing the Buddhist monastic life. During the two-day course on June 16-17, participants will learn about Buddhist rituals and Buddha’s teachings on humanism and personal discipline.
During June, a number of traditional festivals of ethnic groups will be held in the village, such as the house warming ceremony of the Cham group from Ninh Thuan, providing an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn about the bountiful culture of Viet Nam. — VNS
