HCM CITY— The HCM City People’s Committee has launched a national music and theatre contest as part of its festivities to celebrate 45 years of the country’s Reunification Day, April 30.

With the theme, Mãi Mãi Một Tình Yêu (Only Love), the contest aims to highlight the country and Communist Party. The victories of the people and soldiers under the French and American wars are featured, as well as President Hồ Chí Minh and his revolutionary career.

Việt Nam’s revolutionary achievements after 50 years of implementing the President’s statement are also included.

The participants, both amateur and professional, are encouraged to focus on the developments of Việt Nam in economy, culture, politics and diplomacy through their creations.

In music, they are encouraged to send works in song, epic song, musicals, choir, orchestra and instrumental music.

In theatre, the categories includes cải lương (reformed opera), tuồng (classic opera) and chèo (traditional opera) and drama.

Each person can send no more two works to the city’s Department of Culture & Sports at 164 Đồng Khởi Street in District 1 before July 30.

The awards ceremony will be held in September.

According to Hồ Chí Minh Television, in March and April, the station will broadcast documentaries and reports under the theme of "Proud of the City Named after President Hồ Chí Minh", featuring the city’s developments in culture and economy over the past 45 years.

Historical plays featuring Vietnamese soldiers staged by leading theatres, including Trần Hữu Trang Theatre and HCM City Theatre, will be aired live. — VNS
