HCM CITY – More than 110,000 orchid pots will be displayed at the first HCM City Orchid Festival between April 27 and May 1 in District 1’s Tao Đàn Park.

The HCM City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Department of Tourism on April 19, at a press conference about the festival, said the theme is “Orchid Forest in the City Centre”.

It is expected to attract the participation of many gardeners, flower farmers and plant firms in HCM City and 19 provinces.

The orchid association from Thailand and other countries will also join the festival.

Nguyễn Văn Trực,deputy director of the city Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the festival aims to introduce and promote orchid varieties with high economic value to local and international visitors.

HCM City’s agricultural tourism will be further developed, he said.

The festival also provides artisans with a platform to exchange skills and experiences, from planting, caring and breeding orchids to designing garden landscapes for urban areas, he added.

Event spaces are divided into two areas, with the first area focusing on the theme “Orchid Forest in the City Centre” and the second area on “Tropical Colors”.

While different types of orchids are displayed in the first area, orchid carpets and landscapes will be introduced in the second area, offering new experiences to visitors.

About 111,814 pots of orchids will be set up.

Trương Minh Hậu, deputy director of the city Tourism Promotion Centre, said that travel agencies had been encouraged to collaborate with orchid farmers and gardeners to create quality eco-tours to tourists. – VNS
