Korean pianist to perform in HCMC

HCM CITY – South Korean conductor Kim Joon-cha and pianist Cho Eun-young will perform in “A Night of Mozart & Tchaikovsky” concert at HCM City Opera House on April 19.

Pianist Cho will play Piano Concert No 21 in C Major, K 467 composed by Mozart in 1785, together with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO)’s symphony orchestra.

Cho began studying piano at the age of four and won her first prize at 10.

She holds bachelor and master’s degrees and a doctorate in piano performance from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.

Cho has performed with numerous orchestras in Russia and South Korea.

She is now working as a lecturer at Myongji, Baeksoek, Sehan and Kukjae universities in South Korea, and serves as director of the E.C.M. Conservatory.

The concert will also feature the overture from Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), and Symphony No 5 in E Minor, op 64 by Tchaikovsky.

Violinist Tran Huu Quoc will perform as concertmaster of the night.

Quoc was born into a traditional Hanoian family and began studying music at the age of five with his father, renowned musician and violinist Tran Huu Bich.

He earned his master’s degree at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, and has performed across Russia and Europe.

Since 2002, Quoc has worked as a teacher of music for colleges in Seoul.

Conductor Kim has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras in Russia, Romania, the US and South Korea, including the KBS Symphony Orchestra, Oltenia State Philharmonic Orchestra and Ureuk Symphony Orchestra.
