HCM CITY — A music gala titled Huong Ve Bien Gioi, Bien, Dao To Quoc (Towards the Country’s Borders, Seas and Islands) will be held on August 2 in HCM City to raise funds for soldiers and others living in border areas and islands.
The event is being organised by the HCM City’s Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee and HCM City Television (HTV).
The show will present songs praising the country and its islands and seas, featuring veteran singers such as Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Phi Hung and young artist Vo Ha Tram, among others.
The programme will include a meeting with soldiers who patrol the country’s borders and seas.
Trieu Le Khanh, vice chairwoman of the city’s Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee, said: “We are looking to raise VND35 billion (US$1.5 million) this year to support the people and soldiers living and working in border areas and islands.”
The committee aims to bring clean water to seven border provinces, and build cultural houses on the Da Nam Island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago.
It also plans to build 60 houses for the needy and for soldiers who live and work near the border in northern mountainous provinces.
In 2017, the committee raised over VND30 billion ($1.3 million), according to Khanh.
It has built a training room for the Submarine Brigade 189 of the Viet Nam People’s Navy, and has also brought clean water to five border provinces and provided a solar energy system for the Dac O Border Post in Binh Phuoc Province’s Bu Gia Map District.
The music gala will take place at 7:30pm at the HTV Theatre and will be broadcast live on HTV1 and HTV9. — VNS
