HÀ NỘI — The 22nd Việt Nam Film Festival will take place in the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế in September, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced.
The festival features the best local movies released over the past two years and honours outstanding artists in the film industry.
This year’s edition, organised by the ministry and the People's Committee of Thừa Thiên Huế Province, will be held from September 12-16.
The festival will include film screenings, a seminar and awards ceremonies.
The opening and closing ceremonies are scheduled to be held at Sông Hương Theatre - Huế Music Academy at Lê Lợi Street, Hue City, at 7:30pm on September 12 and wrap up at 8pm on September 16, respectively.
The ceremonies include activities highlighting the "Vietnamese cultural and film identity", "promoting and advertising film on the basis of cultural heritage and tourism values in cooperating and providing film-making services", according to the organisers.
A wide range of sideline events are also set to be held including a film week in Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng and HCM City in celebration of the festival, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) has reported.
This is in addition to an exchange between artists and audiences, and an exhibition entitled Thừa Thiên Huế – Điểm Đến của Các Nhà Làm Phim (Thừa Thiên Huế - Destination of Filmmakers).
Numerous outdoor film screenings and an áo dài (traditional dress) fashion show will also be held.
The cultural and cinematic programmes will take place mainly at movie theatres and cultural centres across Huế such as Đông Ba, Lotte Cinema - Big C, BHD Star - Vincom, Cinestar Huế at 25 Hai Bà Trưng Street, Starlight - Co-op mart, Culture and Movie Centre and parks by the Hương River.
The Việt Nam Film Festival is held every two years to honour outstanding cinematographic works and artists for their contributions to the development of local cinema.
The ancient province of Thừa Thiên-Huế is renowned for its history and culture with pristine beaches and landscapes including five UNESCO-recognised heritage sites.
According to many film directors, there is a need for cooperation among producers, the city’s People Committee and Huế World Heritage Centre, alongside encouragement for filmmakers from authorities to help them promote the city. — VNS
