HA NOI — Renowned Vietnamese pianist Luu Hong Quang, who has won many international piano competitions, will perform as an invited artist at piano series No.3 Evolution that will be held at Hanoi Opera House on October 3.

The concert follows the success of previous cathedral concert and piano series that were held earlier this year by Maestoso Music Development Joint Stock Company.

The highlight of the concert is the first performance of Five Bagatelles by Carl Vine, an Australian composer of contemporary classical music, in Viet Nam by the Vietnamese artist.

Quang will also take the audience on the musical journey from the end of the 18th century to the end of the 20th century via classical works of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Ravel and Liszt.

“I feel very honoured to be part of the Evolution and, via the concert, I hope to share and contribute a small part to the Vietnamese community – all proceeds will be donated to Cap La Yeu Thuong – a programme launched by VTV24 Channel to help disadvantaged Vietnamese children attend school,” Quang shared on his Facebook.

Quang is the son of Luu Quang Minh, a lecturer at the Viet Nam National Academy of Music. Quang studied at the academy from 1997 to 2007 under the guidance of Prof Tran Thu Ha, former rector of the academy.

Between 2008 and 2012, Quang studied at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA), in Australia under the guidance of Kyung Hee Lee. In 2013-2015, he pursued his master’s degree at the University of Montreal, Canada, under the guidance of artist Dang Thai Son. He is now the youngest lecturer of AMPA, SydneyAustralia.

Quang has won many prestigious international musical awards including the special prize at Piano International Asia F. Chopin in 2006, the first prize at the Lev Vlassenko piano competition in Australia in 2011 and second place at the Euregio Piano Awards in Germany in 2015. Most recently, he received his 14th international prize – the second prize at the Oleggio International Piano Competition held in Italy from May 3-6.
