PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay — The 41st International Congress of Vine and Wine started on Monday in Punta del Este, Uruguay and will run until Friday gathering the participation of 47 countries and territories.
This is the second time has Uruguay hosted the Congress and the General Assembly of the International OrganiSation of Vine and Wine (OIV). The event will contribute to the global positioning of the country, according to the Uruguay Embassy to Viet Nam.
Uruguay hosted the congress for the first time in 1995, but there was no participation of organisations at the government level such as the OIV.
Uruguay was elected to hold the congress to show that at a world level “we have a respectful supply of quality wines that have been awarded many prizes, a clear signal of our advance despite market difficulties”.
“By sharing this with Viet Nam News, we expect that Vietnamese people and expats will know more about Uruguay and its wineries,” said a press release sent by the Uruguay Embassy to the newspaper.
With the theme "Shaping the Future: Production and Market Challenges", the congress will focus on climate change, market, production and promoting quality wines.
The OIV is an intergovernmental organisation of scientific and technical competence in the field of vine and wine. — VNS
