THỪA THIÊN - HUẾ - On the evening of February 28, at Trịnh Công Sơn Park, the People's Committee of Huế organised the inauguration ceremony of an artistic statue of the late musician Trịnh Công Sơn and the art programme "Evening in My Hometown".

This is one of the meaningful activities to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the birth of the late musician Trịnh Công Sơn (February 28, 1939 - February 28, 2024).

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Huế, Trương Đình Hạnh, stated that the event was organised to remember, acknowledge, and honor the contributions of Sơn - a talented son of Huế for Vietnamese contemporary music in general and for Huế in particular.

At the same time, the statue creates a highlight for the landscape and tourism of Huế.

The location of the statue of Sơn will also be a stopping point for admirers of the talent of the late musician to have the opportunity to learn more about his life and career, and where he composed his first songs.

The city is committed to continue completing Trịnh Công Sơn Park according to its plan, and to continue arranging the memorial artifacts of the late musician.

The statue is a work of art by the late sculptor Trương Đình Quế and is owned by Lê Hùng Mạnh, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Gia Hoà Construction and Trading Company.

The statue is made of bronze, with a height of 1.7m, width of 1.6m, length of 2.3m, and weighs 500 kilos.

It was designed, installed, and harmoniously combined with the landscape of Trịnh Công Sơn Park in Gia Hội Ward, Huế, by architect Hồ Viết Vinh and his team in collaboration with the Green Park Center of Huế.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Huế, in collaboration with the family of Trịnh Công Sơn, organised the art programme "Evening in My Hometown".

The programme featured the participation of famous singers such as Đức Tuấn, Giang Trang, Tấn Sơn and Lã Anh Thư, among others.

Sơn left a vast musical legacy with over 600 songs, including more than 200 popular songs.

He is also regarded as a poet, painter, actor, and singer.

He was a member of the HCM Music Association, a member of the Việt Nam Musicians' Association, and a former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the World Music magazine, under the Việt Nam Musicians' Association. - VNS
