ĐỒNG THÁP — More than 500 artefacts and antiques have been presented to Đồng Tháp Museum in the southern province of Đồng Tháp by Nguyễn Ngọc Ẩn, a collector from the central province of Bình Thuận.
According to Nguyễn Minh Phước, the director of the museum, the donated objects are mostly jewellery and ceramic artefacts like necklaces, bracelets, rings, bowls, cups and jars
All the artefacts belong to Đông Sơn Culture, Sa Huỳnh Culture, Chăm, Mạ, Chinese, Japanese and southern Việt Nam’s cultures, dating back to as long as 1000BC to the early 20th century.
They have high historical, cultural and artistic values, reflecting the production process and creativity of the Vietnamese in different historical periods, said the director.
On this occasion the Đồng Tháp Provincial People’s Committee presented a Certificate of Merit to collector Ẩn for his donation.
Reviewing the tradition of Việt Nam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23, 1945), Phước said there have been remarkable results in recent years in the preservation and promotion of national cultural heritage.

According to the Department of Cultural Heritage under the ministry of culture, Việt Nam boasts eight world cultural heritages, 112 special national relics, 3,500 national relics and more than 10,000 provincial relics.
In addition, 191 artefacts have been recognised as national treasures and more than 200 intangible cultural heritages have been inscribed in the national intangible cultural heritage category.
Nearly 100,000 antiques and artefacts have been collected, researched and preserved in 154 museums nationwide, the director added.
A blend of Eastern and Western architecture, interesting exhibits, and a lush green outdoor space looking to the Cao Lãnh River make Đồng Tháp Museum in Cao Lãnh City one of the best tourism attractions in the Mekong Delta.
The museum which was established in 1978, is home to more than 30,000 artefacts, including three recognised as national treasures.
It is committed to teaching younger generations about the province’s history and heroic tradition.
The museum's management board is collaborating with partners in other historical relics and scenic spots in the province to promote local tourism. It targets to welcome over 100,000 visitors each year. — VNS
