HCM CITY — A wall painting project called “Fresco for the Future” is restoring the appearance of Canh Duong fishing village in the north-central province of Quang Binh province after the devastation of storm Doksuri last September.

Veterand and young artists have completed 20 of 30 frescoes in an impressive 3D style with a variety of themes about the sea and marine creatures. They are expected to be finished in early March.

The project, organised by GIUN9 Art Center and AkzoNobel, the international paint and coating company, was designed to contribute to community tourism by combining local cultural heritage with artwork.

Nguyen Viet Dung, director of GIUN9 Art Center, said: “This is a unique initiative which refreshes the appearance of the fishing village, but also boosts the local economy. Canh Duong has 400 years of history and many interesting sights with the Whale Temple, Ancestral House and others.”

The village is located about nine kilometres from the tomb of legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap and 60 km from Phong Nha caves, with seafood villages nearby.

AkzoNobel said it would continue to work with organisations in Viet Nam to organise other meaningful projects. — VNS
