HCM CITY — A photo exhibition highlighting the beauty and lifestyle of HCM City is opening at the city Photography Association.

The event, called “Sắc Màu Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh” (Colours of HCM City), showcases 81 colour and black-and-white photos by female amateur and professional photographers from the city and Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces.

The photos feature a wide range of topics such as the city’s people, landscape, lifestyle, and festivals.

They highlight the city’s outstanding festivities such as the Tết (Lunar New Year) festival, the lantern festival, the air-balloon festival, and tourism and cuisine events. The pictures also depict the city’s achievements in society, economy, and tourism.

The photos were chosen from a photo contest for female photographers launched by the association from January 20 to February 20, which received 1,452 entries from 71 artists.

The organiser awarded the first prize to a photo titled “Gian Hàng Lưu Niệm” (Souvenir Booth) by Nguyễn Thị Thuý Hằng, a member of the city-based Hải Âu Female Photography Club.

Two second prizes were given to Cao Thị Ngọc Hương of the city for her photo “Chạy Vượt Rào” (Hurdling) and to Hoàng Bích Nhung for “Kim Long Du Xuân” (Golden Dragon Wanders in Spring).

Nguyễn Hồng Nga, deputy chairwoman of the association, said despite being busy with roles as mothers and wives, and their jobs, female photographers tried their best to have a large number of quality photos showing their love for the city.

The exhibition lasts until March 15. The association is at 122 Sương Nguyệt Ánh Street in District 1. – VNS
