A TV programme about new-style rural areas and farmers on Long An Province Radio & Television has received positive feedback from audiences in southern provinces.

The programme, called Chuyện Nhà Nông (The Stories of Farmers), airs twice a week on the LA34 channel and has become a forum for farmers to discuss their agricultural successes and problems.

The 20-minute show has seven segments, including the latest information and reports about farming and opportunities and challenges during Việt Nam’s integration into the global economy.

It features building new-style rural areas and how it has helped the provinces of the Mekong River Delta region improve the lives of local farmers.

The producers invite dozens of experienced businesspeople and farm owners to participate in the programme.

The guests talk and share their experiences to help farmers improve yields and product value by using advanced farming techniques and boosting the promotion of their produce.

“Our show, Chuyện Nhà Nông, has received hundreds of comments and letters each month from viewers in the region,” said the show’s producer Lê Thị Thanh Tuyền.

“Our staff is working with farmers’ associations in southern provinces to produce and air documentary films and reports which feature traditional culture and lifestyle, and tourist destinations in the region in general and Long An in particular.”

Long An has attracted more than 350,000 visitors, including 200 foreigners, in the first nine months of this year.

The province has been very successful in building national new-style rural areas, improving farmers’ incomes and the beautiful look of rural areas.

It has had 106 of its 161 communes recognised as new-style rural areas and eight are advanced new-style rural areas under the national target programme on building new-style rural areas.

These communes have quality infrastructure, irrigation, electricity, education and healthcare systems.

The province has identified four farming areas for the use of advanced techniques, including a rice farming zone in the Đồng Tháp Mười (Plain of Reeds), a dragon fruit farming zone in Châu Thành District, vegetable farming zones in the districts of Cần Đước, Cần Giuộc, Đức Hoà and the city of Tân An, and cattle farming zones in Đức Hoà and Đức Huệ.
