HCM CITY – Saigon Philharmonic Youth Orchestra’s string quartet will honour famous Vietnamese composers in the “Dấu Ấn” (Hallmark) concert in HCM City on May 11.
The quartet, consisting of violinists Lâm Hoài Bảo and Đoàn Trọng Hồ Nguyên, violist Nguyễn Kim Châu Giang, and cellist Nguyễn Hoàng Lê Quyên, will play works by popular composers including Trịnh Công Sơn, Thanh Tùng, Dương Thụ, Quốc Bảo, Bảo Chấn, Anh Quân, and Ngọc Lễ.
The songs will include Cuối Cùng Cho Một Tình Yêu (Last Thing for Love) by Trịnh Công Sơn, Hoa Cỏ Mùa Xuân (Flowers of Spring) by Bảo Chấn, Cho Em Một Ngày (Give Me One Day) by Dương Thụ, and Vĩnh Việt Mùa Hè (Goodbye Summer) by Thanh Tùng.
The concert will also feature a new composition String for Quartet No 1 by composer Nguyễn Đỗ Anh Tuấn.
Tuấn graduated in composition, contemporary writing, production, and conducting from the Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts in the US.
He has worked as an arranger and composer of several productions by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera, and has been music director of music galas such as Xin Chào Việt Nam (Hello Việt Nam) and Art for Hearts.
He is now head of the music faculty at the Soul Music and Performing Arts Academy in HCM City.
The Saigon Philharmonic Youth Orchestra was established early this year with the aim of promoting symphonic music and the city’s culture to people aged 18-25.
