HA NOI — A 3D animated film celebrating the life of King Ly Thai To (974-1028) has just hit cinemas after nearly two years in the making.
The film, entitled Nguoi Con Cua Rong (Dragon's Son), depicts the early years of "Little Ly"ù (King Ly Cong Uan's nickname), when he was being raised by Monk Van Hanh. The animation is eye-catchingly vivid and tells the story of a bright and energetic young boy. The film also depicts Ly as a compassionate ruler in Hoa Lu (now in the northern province of Ninh Binh) and later Thang Long (today's Ha Noi).
There are 30 characters featured in the animation. The script was written by Doan Trieu Long and playwright Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, the director of Cinematography Association's Film Company.
The film was directed by Minh Tri, who shot the animation in record time – a 90-minute animation film normally takes three to four years to complete.
The film, which was shot exclusively in Viet Nam, also celebrates Ha Noi's millennium. — VNS
