HA NOI — Audiences in Ha Noi and Hue will have a chance to enjoy the spectacular contemporary dance Roam staged by British dancers.

Roam, a captivating journey performed by five stunning dancers plunges the audience into a world of swinging sub-bass and complex percussion, with especially commissioned tracks from producer/composer Shackleton and drum&bass Sion.

Roam takes as its starting point the human requirement to explore and experience, and incorporates the work of poet Rick Holland.

The piece explores the concept of roaming through life, according to founder and choreographer Tom Dale.

Tom Dale creates collaborative performance work through dance with the aim of creating a unique and rich form of expression that reaches out and excites new audiences.

Award winning dancer/choreographer Tom Dale founded the Tom Dale Company in 2001. An involvement in electronic music encouraged Tom to seek out a career in dance.

Tom comes from a background in electronic music and its various subcultures, and this is obvious in his work; however he has a passion for an eclectic mix of musical genres which always forms part of his company's creative process.

Tom's choreography has a style of its own, cutting between raw, aggressive and visceral movement and refined precision to create dynamic and unpredictable dance.

He was awarded a scholarship to train at Laban London where he won the Centre's award for outstanding achievement in choreography 1998.

In 2006 he was a semi-finalist for the prestigious Place Prize with Whose Futures in London and his company's most recent work Rise was featured as part of Spring Loaded 2008 following a UK tour and successful run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He was part of Europe In Motion, Spring Dance Festival 2009.

The piece was created with support from the Laban Theatre, DanceXchange, Dance Digital, the Garrick Charitable Trust and Arts Council England.

The Ha Noi performance of Roam will take place at 8pm on Sunday at the Youth Theatre, 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street.

Free tickets for the show can be picked up at the British Council, 20 Thuy Khue Street and the Youth Theatre.

As the British Council's contribution to the Hue Festival this year, the performance will take place at 7.30pm next Wednesday and at 8.30pm next Thursday at Thai Hoa Eastern Stage, Royal Citadel.

Tickets can be purchased at every Festival box-office in Hue city. — VNS
