MEXICO — A bronze bust of Ho Chi Minh has just been inaugurated in Guadalajara City, Jalisco, Mexico.
The bust, which is 60cm high, is the brainchild of artist Saul Hernandez and is the fourth bust of the leader placed in Mexico.
Addressing a solemn ceremony to introduce the bust on September 14 at the International Friendship Centre, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, the Mayor of the city said that it was the great honour of the city’s residents and authorities to praise Uncle Ho.
“The bust is not the coolness of marble stone or bronze material,” he stressed, “It symbolises the spirit, affections and feelings of the person, who has protected justice and goodness.”
Jeanette Velazquez Sedano, a member of the city’s council, confirmed that the heritage handed down by President Ho would last forever.
“Local authorities and residents are proud to honour President Ho Chi Minh,” he said.
Vietnamese ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong thanked local people for their sentiments toward Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh.
He recalled the admiration by Mexico’s former President Lazaro Cardenas to Ho Chi Minh and Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi.
“The Mexican President once said the people are two examples of fighting for people in the world’s history and they have served their country with all their strength and morality for only one purpose: liberating their peoples from colonists,” Duong said. — VNS
