HA NOI — Central Highlands singer Y Moan will perform his first show in Ha Noi on Friday at the Au Co Arts Performance Centre.

The live show Flame of the Central Highlands will feature the ‘voice of jungle', who is currently in bad health.

Born in 1957, Y Moan was discovered in 1976 after reunification. He left his home in the mountains of Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) and headed for Ha Noi when he was recruited for the Song and Dance Troupe.

He studied at the then Ha Noi Conservatory of Music from 1979 until 1986. During that time, he met a girl from Thai Binh Province and they married. He also met composer Nguyen Cuong.

Having seen Y Moan's special character as well as his passion for music, Cuong set about teaching him everything he knew and composed one of Y Moan's most wellknown songs Hey, M'Drak, about his homeland.

Cuong wrote the song from his heart, with his love for life in Tay Nguyen, while Y Moan performed it with the passion of a local.

The song became a turning point in both their careers, leaving a link between the pair.

Y Moan will sing the beloved Hey, M'Drak in the show which is being sponsored by many of his fans, including composer Cuong.

"This is the first time an audience will enjoy a duet by two leading Tay Nguyen singers, Y Moan and Siu Black. I'm so happy to sing and talk with them on stage," said the composer.

"I want to sing until I die. I wish to die while singing on stage," Y Moan has said.

Composer Cuong is trying his best to lobby for Y Moan to be awarded the country's highest artistic title, People's Artist, by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, before he dies. The Viet Nam Musicians Association will also award him a medal at the show.

Y Moan will perform with many others, including singer Y Zak and his two sons. The other singers are donating their time to show their respect for Y Moan.

About 2,000 DVDs Tro Ve Buon Lang Xua (Returning to Highland Village) by Y Moan will be released on the occasion of his birthday on September 6. — VNS
