HÀ NỘI — Some 350-400 children's art works selected from the National Children Painting Contest and Exhibition 2023 will be displayed in Hà Nội in the second quarter of this year, the event's organising board announced.

A decision issued recently by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) has approved the organisation of one of the biggest children's national programmes, including the painting contest that will conclude on April 10.

Accordingly, the culture ministry assigned the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to cover all the activities across the country.

The National Children's Painting Contest and Exhibition is a national cultural and artistic event for children taking place every two years nationwide to inspire a passion for art and creativity in talented Vietnamese children and teenagers, said the MoCST's Tổ Quốc (Fatherland) newspaper.

It provides opportunities for children to express their feelings, emotions, and outlook on life and the world through their painting and art, the paper reported.

The contest and exhibition also aim to encourage and facilitate the development of fine arts activities inside and outside the school, creating a healthy and useful playground for children to exchange, learn experiences and develop their painting ability.

This year, the contest is held for those aged between five and 15. Entries should be drawn between 2021 and 2023 on paper sizes A3 or A2, using various materials such as powder colour or collage.

Each candidate is allowed to send up to two original paintings drawn by themselves. The organisers will not return the entries and have the right to use the works for printing and other dissemination purposes.

The organising board expects to award first, second and third prizes to three, six and 10 outstanding works, respectively, which are selected as winners at the contest. It will also offer 20 "encouraging" prizes to individuals and 10 other awards to groups of artists with excellent achievements at the event.

Candidates should send their works to the Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition Department at 38 Cao Bá Quát Street, Ba Đình District, Hà Nội. — VNS
