City audiences to enjoy night of Italian classics

HCM CITY — Conductor Ta Bon, chorus master Tran Nhat Minh and the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will present Italian violin concerto and choral music at Italian Night concert tonight.

Bon will conduct the HBSO String Orchestra to perform The Four Seasons, Antonio Vivaldi's best-known work.

The Four Seasons, composed in 1723, is a set of four violin concertos named after seasons – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter which will be performed by soloists Nguyen Truc Thuyen, Tang Thanh Nam and Ho Dang Hoi.

Bon, music advisor of the HBSO, studied at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in China and then the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

He was a judge at international classical music competitions: the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia and the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Germany.

The concert will continue with choral music by the HBSO Choir under young conductor Tran Nhat Minh, who has a master degree in choir conducting at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

The performance will highlight works by famous Italian opera composers such as Giulio Caccini, Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini.

The concert will begin at 8pm tonight at the HCM City Opera House on 7 Lam Son Square, District 1. Tickets, ranging from VND100,000 (US$5) to VND200,000 ($10), are available at the box office. — VNS
