THUA THIEN-HUE — More than 600 items of pottery have been made according to the lost techniques of Phuoc Tich Pottery Village in Thua Thien-Hue Province, the Sub-Institute of Vietnamese Arts and Culture in Hue announced this week.

The unglazed items of pots, vases, lime-paste pots, jars and water containers were made after three days of firing and seven days of cooling.

All of the designs, as well as stove and production processes, were based on findings of research conducted by the institute on the lost craft of Phuoc Tich Village in Phong Dien District.

Only 30 per cent of the first batch of items were damaged, a lower rate than expected.

Pottery has been a traditional craft of Phuoc Tich since it was established around 500 years ago.

The village's products were sold all over the central part of the country before the craft became extinct due to successive wars.

The second firing is planned tomorrow as part of Festival Hue 2010. — VNS
