Composer's new songs to feature in HCMC

HCM CITY — A collection of new songs by composer Le Van Tuan will be featured tonight at the Opera House with eight members of the HCM City Symphony Orchestra.

This is the second time within the last six months that an artist has held a concert in HCM City to introduce songs composed according to his own particular style and creativity, which he calls CROR music, a combination of classical, romantic, opera and rock.

The 48-year-old composer said at his concert The Desert Is Still Green, the vocals will be the background for the Vietnamese and Western musical instruments.

"Audiences will find melodies of rock music, but also the deep sounds of Eastern music and the ebullient sounds of Western music."

The songs have been performed in the public before and broadcast on television and radio, with many people expressing interest.

Debates about the new music genre are expected.

At the event, the composer's book about the music Tears for the Ocean and CROR Music will also be awarded the Viet Nam Guinness Book of Records for its dimension of 1.6m high, 1.2m wide and 0.28m thick. It weighs 250kg.

The book also includes poems, dramas, paintings and allegorical stories.

The programme is free, but invitations are required. It will be held at HCM City's Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square in District 1. — VNS
