HCM CITY — A special music programme featuring dozens of top singers will take place in HCM City's Hoa Binh (Peace) Theatre tonight to welcome the 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, which began this week in Ha Noi.

The event, Mai Mai Niem Tin Theo Dang (Believe in the Party Forever), will feature opera singers Ta Minh Tam, Anh Bang and Hoang Vinh and pop stars Cam Van, Lam Truong, Ho Quynh Huong, Thanh Thuy from Ha Noi and HCM City.

The performers will sing patriotic songs by veteran composers, including Pham Minh Tuan and Hoang Hiep.

One of the performance highlights is Bai Ca Khong Quen (Unforgetable Song), a work in praise of peace, love and soldiers.

Since the song was written in 1981 by composer Tuan, it has been performed many times by many singers. The work is still fresh and attracts people from different ages and backgrounds.

Bai Ca Khong Quen helped its first performer, Cam Van, rise from an unknown singer to fame as a pop star.

In show, Van will sing her favourite song before nearly an audience of 2,000.

Through the show, organisers hope young people will have a chance to learn about the country's heroic history and improve their love for the country and people, said Nguyen Nhu Hung of Tap Chi Cong San (Communistm Review) magazine, a member of the event's organising board.

The show will open at 8pm tonight at Hoa Binh Theatre on 3 Thang 2 Street, District 10. It will be aired live on the HCM City Television's HTV9 channel. — VNS
