ĐIỆN BIÊN Tourists to the northern province of Điện Biên can now visit Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum at night as the attraction will remain open until 9pm on every Friday and Saturday through May 31.
The extension of the opening time aims to meet increasing visitor demand during peak periods, especially during the national holiday on April 30 - May 1, the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ victory (May 7th, 2024) and the celebration of Visit Vietnam Year – Điện Biên 2024.
Besides Fridays and Saturdays, the museum will also receive visitors until 9pm on May 6-7 when Điện Biên Phủ victory anniversary is celebrated.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Điện Biên Province and other relevant organisations, the National Tourism Year – Điện Biên will feature 169 programmes and events. It is hoped to promote the tourism values and potential of Điện Biên province, the northwestern region and Việt Nam at large.
Being a treasure trove that preserves authentic and vivid images of the glorious victory that "resonated across five continents and shook the world," the opening of the museum in the evening is expected to meet visitors' needs and help the site continue to be a must-visit destination in this historical area.
On March 13, 1954, the Vietnamese revolutionary army launched the first attack against the French colonialists’ heavily fortified base of Điện Biên Phủ, starting a 56-day historic campaign whose victory on May 7 directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords, ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. - VNS
