HÀ NỘI — The Kim Đồng Publishing House has recently re-published the first Vietnamese language text book collection.
Titled Quốc Văn Giáo Khoa Thư (National Vietnamese Text Book), the collection was first published in the early 20th century. It includes three volumes, namely Đồng Ấu, Dự Bị and Sơ Đẳng.
The collection was compiled by various prestigious writers and researchers like Trần Trọng Kim, Nguyễn Văn Ngọc, Đặng Đình Phúc and Đỗ Thận.
Reading exercises include themes of history, geology and nature together with explanations of vocabulary, homework and writing practice.
Illustrations in the books are in the style of wood carvings by noted painter Nam Sơn.
The collection is familiar to various generations of Vietnamese students in the early half of 20th century.
The collection has been re-published several times in the country. This time, Kim Đồng Publishing House has excluded some content, fixed pronunciation details to suit modern language and make the illustrations clearer. — VNS
