CAO BANG — The second Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival took place last weekend in the northern province of Cao Bang with a range of activities to promote local culture and tourism as well as the hospitability of local residents.
Festival-goers had the chance to experience exhibitions, art performances, folk games, cycle racing, kayaking on the Quay Son River, a rice cooking contest and booths introducing tourism products of the locality.
Ban Gioc Waterfall, located in Trung Khanh District on the border with China’s Guangxi Province, is a treasure of Cao Bang Province. The waterfall, which is 53 metres high and 300 metres wide, is the fourth largest border waterfall in the world and was named among the top ten most spectacular waterfalls in the world by travel site Touropia.
The waterfalls are located within the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, home to fossils, ocean sediment, volcanic rocks, minerals, and karst landscapes, which can give researchers an insight into more than 500 million years of Earth’s history. It was recognised as a global geopark by the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council in April. — VNS
