HCM CITY — Popular pop stars and music bands will perform at the HCM City Television Theatre next week to mark the 35th anniversary of the HCM City Young Volunteer Brigade.

Titled Ngoc Trong Da (Pearl hidden inside the rock), the event will entertain the audience with performances by well-known local singers like Lam Truong, Phuong Thanh, Cam Ly and Minh Thuan, as well as pop bands F.M. and Doremi.

The artistes will perform many songs favoured by the youth including Vuon Yeu (Garden of Romantic Love), Le Loi (Loneliness); and Cho Em Trong Con Mua (Waiting for You in the Rain). All these songs are written by a former volunteer, La Van Cuong.

Songs by renowned composers like Trinh Cong Son, Tu Huy and Nguyen Ngoc Thien will also be performed.

Veteran singer Cam Van will sing Bai Ca Khong Quen (Unforgettable Song), one of the country's most popular patriotic songs composed by Pham Minh Tuan.

"I'm going to enjoy singing at Ngoc Trong Da. Like many youngsters in HCM City, I respect the city's volunteers who devote their time to building the country," said young singer Quoc Nam, a member of the pop band F.M.

"I believe that our band's performance of the volunteers' songs will be successful because so many youngsters have heard these songs and love them," he added.

Working together with talented artists in literature and fine arts such as Nguyen Nhat Anh, Nguyen Dong Thuc and Cao Vu Huy Mien, former volunteers, singer Quoc Nam and his colleagues will perform before a 500-strong audience at the HTV Theatre.

They will also been seen by millions of people across the country on the VTV4 and HTV9 channels.

The March 20 show will also raise money for underprivileged children. — VNS
