HA NOI — Vietnamese rocker Pham Anh Khoa will share a stage with South Korean superstar Rain when he performs at the three-day 2011 Pattaya International Music Festival, kicking off on the Thai resort island tomorrow.

The festival will gather a number of over 100 other popular Asian artists in variety of musical styles, including Johnny's Junior from Japan, Derrick Hoh from Singapore, Superkidz from Indonesia, Will Ng from Malaysia, Nina from the Philippines, and Tik Princess from Laos.

Khoa and Indonesia's Superkids will perform tomorrow from 10.30pm to 11pm on the festival's Galaxy Stage. He is expected to promote his upcoming album by performing its title song, his own composition, entitled Nao Cung Buoc (Step Together).

"The festival will give me a chance to access an international audience," said Khoa. "It will let me introduce Vietnamese rock music and be a good tryout for my latest songs and my band."

Khoa, 26, was born in Khanh Hoa Province and is a student at the HCM City Conservatoire. His powerful music, strong voice and good looks helped him win the jury prize in a televised singing contest held by Viet Nam Television in 2006.

Two albums, PAK 01 and Lam Sao Noi Het (How Can I Say All), were released in 2007 and 2009. Khoa most recently performed last year in HCM City. He is represented by the Music Faces Entertainment agency and is a product spokesman for Coca Cola Viet Nam.

The Pattaya International Music Festival draws about 400,000 music fans to the island each year. — VNS
