Guest artist comes home to play

HA NOI — Violinist Nguyen Huu Khoi Nam, a member of the Orchestre National de France, will return home for a concert with the Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra on Saturday and Sunday.

He will perform Beet-hoven's Concerto for Violin D major op.68 at the Ha Noi Opera House.

Nam graduated from the Boulogne Conservatory of Music and Paris National Conservatory of Music, majoring in violin and chamber performance.

He is one of the founders of the trio Turina and the quartet Impresa which won first prize at the National Chamber Music Competition in Paris.

Born in Nha Trang city in 1975, Nam studied music at the HCM City Conservatory.

In 1993, he received a scholarship to continue studying in France. Two years later he gained admission from the Conservatorie National Superieur de Paris to study the violin. In 1997, he began to perform with the Orchestre National de France while still at the conservatory.

As a member of the national orchestra and concertmaster of the string orchestra Ensemble Nouvel Generation and orchestra Festival de musique de Puteaux, Nam has been a regular guest artist at many concerts in Europe and Asia.

In May 2009 he performed as a soloist with the string orchestra Ensemble Nouvel Generation in the concert Beatles Fantasy at the Seoul Arts Centre on the occasion of the Seoul Spring Festival.

Nam has also performed in concerts with the Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra on previous occasions, presenting concertos by Bruch, Saint Saens and Mozart.

The Ha Noi concert will be conducted by Le Phi Phi, who is the conductor of the Macedonian National Orchestra. Phi studied at the Ha Noi Conservatory in 1986 and then at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia.

He has performed in many countries and conducted orchestras in Ha Noi many times.
