HCM CITY — Vocalists and musicians of the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will present at a concert featuring music from popular movies at the Opera House on July 16 and 17.
The concert, “Around the World with Film Music”, will open with Dmitri Shostakovich's score for the 1955 film The Gadfly.
Đoàn Huy An will be featured as a solo trumpeter in a score from the romantic comedy movie Notting Hill.

Soprano Phạm Khánh Ngọc will continue the night with a song from House of Flying Daggers, a 2004 martial arts and romance film directed by Zhang Yimou.
Baritone Đào Mác and soprano Phạm Duyên Huyên will sing a duet from the animated movie Aladdin.
Tenor Trần Duy Linh will present Bryan Adams’ Everything I do I do it for You, the main theme from the 1991 American action adventure film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Linh and Ngọc will also introduce the duet Time to Say Goodbye written by Italian composer Francesco Sartori for the 1998 American action thriller film Ronin.
The programme will also feature original scores and soundtracks from movies Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Lion King, Mulan, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Skyfall, Gladiator, Mission Impossible and Once Upon a Time in America.
The compositions will be performed by the HBSO choir, symphony orchestra and vocalists such as Phạm Trang and Phan Hồng Dịu, and clarinet player Hoàng Ngọc Anh Quân.
Most of the works performed in the concert are arranged by composer Nguyễn Mạnh Duy Linh of HBSO.

The concert will be conducted by Meritorious Artist Trần Vương Thạch, former director of the HBSO.
Thạch studied at leading music schools and conservatories in Belgium and the Netherlands.
He has performed in many countries, such as Germany, Italy, Scotland, Spain, France, Tokyo and Korea.
In 2020, he was granted the title Knight of Arts and Letters (Chevaliers des Lettres et des Arts) from the French government for his efforts to promote arts exchange between Việt Nam and France.
The concert will begin at 8pm at the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Sơn Square in District 1. — VNS
