HA NOI — A television series about a man who initiated a fundamental change in Viet Nam's agricultural economic structure during the 1960s-70s has won the most audience votes in a survey conducted by the Viet Nam Television Magazine.

Bi Thu Tinh Uy (Provincial Party Committee Secretary) was directed by Quoc Trong and the 50-episode series features the life of provincial Party Committee Secretary Hoang Kim and his revolutionary idea of giving land to farmers and letting them decide what they want to grow, rather than controlling land with collective farms as before.

The series was inspired by the real life of Hoang Kim Ngoc, the Party Committee Secretary of the northern province of Vinh Phuc.

Actor Dung Nhi, who played the role of Hoang Kim, won the prize for Most Popular Television Actor while writer Van Thao won the Most Popular Television Playwright.

Actress Minh Hoa was voted Most Popular Television Actress for her role as Bach Yen, a mafia goddess in Cuong Phong (Tornado).

Cuong Phong, directed by Huy Thuan, and Blog Nang Dau (Mother-in-Law's Blog) by Mai Hong Phong finished behind Bi Thu Tinh Uy.

Last year was a "prosperous year" for Viet Nam's television industry with more than 40 television films and series broadcast, according to critics. — VNS
