Japanese maestro to wield baton for City collaboration

HCM CITY — Renowned Japanese conductor Yoshikazu Fukumura will collaborate with the HCM City Conservatory of Music's symphony orchestra for a concert tonight.

They will perform Rossini's La scala di Seta-Overture, Chopin's Andante spianato&Grande Polonaise Brillante, and Haydn's London.

Young pianist Nguyen Tuan Manh will accompany the orchestra to play Weber's Concerto in F Minor.

Fukumura has worked as a conductor of the Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra and been music director and conductor of many symphony orchestras in Japan and other Asian countries as well as Latin America.

He has worked with the Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra since 1994, making an immense contribution to the development of symphony performances in the country.

Manh, born in 1986, studied piano at the HCM City conservatory. He won the first prize in the National Yamaha Piano Competition in 1995 and second prize in the Autumn National Music Competition for Young Talents in Ha Noi in 2007.

In 2008 he received training at the Summer Music School in Mosjoen, Norway, and gave a performance at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden.

Manh has performed in many concerts held in HCM City to mark national festivals.

The show will begin at 8pm tonight at the conservatory at 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1. Tickets are available at the venue. — VNS
