HCM CITY — A newly established arts hub called A. Farm in HCM City is showcasing works by artists with diverse styles at its debut exhibition All Animals are Equal.

Nguyen Cat Nguyen, a graduate in interior architecture from Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore, is introducing kirigami, a variation of origami that includes cutting of paper.

The artist tells stories about life and her passion about architecture.

Nguyen, who is self taught in pop-up and paper art, has collaborated with artists in HCM City to explore a new way of using pop-ups to turn pages into an exhibition archive.

The event features the performance artist Lap Xuan of HCM City whose work comprises performance, installations, drawings and sculptures.

The artist approaches ordinary materials and concepts to convey emotion from everyday objects and actions.

Xuan received a Master’s of Art in art and design from University of New South Wales in Australia, and Bachelor’s of Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore.

She has exhibited and performed in Viet Nam and abroad.

The exhibition will also feature Polaroid photos on nature and people by photographer Long Long Long, and paintings from Pham Tran Viet Nam’s collection called Van Te Thap Loai Chung Sinh (Prayer for Ten Types of Wandering Souls) featuring faces of women and men expressing different feelings.

A. Farm is a hub for artists, cultural workers, events and exhibitions collaboratively managed by the arts organisations Nguyen Art Foundation, MoT+++ and San Art.

The hub is at 96/1 Tan Thoi Nhat Street in District 12. The exhibition is open to the public until July 1. — VNS
