HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has initiated the voting process for the selection of the 10 outstanding cultural, sporting and tourism events of 2023.
The annual event aims to showcase the achievements in the cultural, sports and tourism sectors in the past year.
The ten events are selected from 15 events in the fields of cultural, sports, tourism and family, nominated by relevant units like Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism nationwide, Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association and Vietnam Olympic Committee.
Some nominations for the ten notable cultural, sport and tourism events of 2023 include the 80th anniversary of the outline of Vietnamese culture, Hạ Long Bay – Cát Bà Archipelago in the northern province of Quảng Ninh province and neighbouring Hải Phòng city being recognised as a world natural heritage site by UNESCO, and Việt Nam leading the medal tally of the 32nd SEA Games.
Notably, the repatriation of the Nguyễn Dynasty's golden imperial seal Hoàng đế chi bảo (Treasure of the Emperor) and Revised Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence (effective from July 1, 2023), which was listed among the ten outstanding events of 2022, continue to be included in the nomination.

The voting process involves the participation of representatives from central and local press agencies. The organisers also conduct online voting through three websites - sukienvhttdl.bvhttdl.gov.vn, baovanhoa.vn and toquoc.vn.

Nominations for ten outstanding cultural, sporting and tourism events of 2023
Culture and Family:
1. 80th anniversary of the Introduction of the Vietnamese Culture Outline.
2. Inaugural event "Honouring 78 exemplary cultural figures nationwide in 2023" and the National Cultural Officials Conference.
3. UNESCO recognition of Hạ Long Bay – Cát Bà Archipelago (Quảng Ninh Province and Hải Phòng City) as a World Natural Heritage site.
4. Việt Nam elected as a member of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-27 term.
5. Repatriation of the Nguyễn Dynasty's golden imperial seal Hoàng đế chi bảo (Treasure of the Emperor)
6. Notable achievements in cultural industry; Hội An and Đà Lạt recognised as UNESCO Creative Cities.
7. The first Cultural Festival of ethnic groups with populations of fewer than 10,000 people held in Lai Châu Province.
8. Amendment to the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control, effective from July 1, 2023, accompanied by Decree 76/2023/NĐ-CP providing detailed regulations for certain provisions of the law, issued on November 1, 2023, and effective from December 25, 2023.
Sports:
1. Việt Nam topping the overall medal tally at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games – SEA Games 32, held in Cambodia in May 2023.
2. Vietnamese women's national football team competing in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.
3. Việt Nam winning its first-ever gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games.
4. Cyclist Nguyễn Thị Thật becoming the Asian champion and securing a spot to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Tourism:
1. Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính presiding over the National Online Conference on Tourism in 2023 on March 15 and the National Conference on Rapid and Sustainable Tourism Development on November 15. The Government issued Resolution 82/NQ-CP on key tasks and solutions to accelerate the effective and sustainable recovery and development of tourism.
2. On August 14, 2023, the Government issuing Resolution 127/NQ-CP on the implementation of electronic visas for citizens of all countries and territories, and Resolution 128/NQ-CP extending temporary residence to 45 days for 13 visa-exempt countries.
3. Việt Nam receiving multiple awards from the World Tourism Organisation in 2023, including being honoured as a Top World Heritage Destination for the 4th time and voted as a Top Travel Destination in Asia for the 5th time.
