HA NOI — Heavy rains throughout the north of Viet Nam in the past few weeks have caused serious floods in many areas, including the western outskirts of Ha Noi.

Chuong My District is one of the most seriously flooded districts with nearly 3,000 households deeply submerged in water.

Nearly 2,000m of local rural roads and more than 8,300m of paths linking fields have been ruined. Infrastructure works like dykes, lakes, dams, canals and bridges have been affected together with public buildings like culture houses, schools, healthcare centres, temples and pagodas.

As of Wednesday, more than 3,600 houses in the outskirts of Ha Noi remained heavily flooded, 1,500 hectares of crops were damaged and nearly 56,000 domestic animals were dead or lost.
