HA NOI — The ceramic road along the Hong (Red) River dyke in Ha Noi has been recorded as the longest ceramic picture in the world in the Guinness Book, said painter Nguyen Thu Thuy, the initiator of the project.

Thuy said the Guinness Book's experts would come to Ha Noi on October 2-5 to give the certificate to the project author.

Ha Noi's Ceramic Road project runs 3,950m in length and covering a space of 7,000sq.m. The 21 parts of the painting follow various topics and run from An Duong to Van Kiep gates of the dyke.

The project breaks the record for a porcelain painting made by Pei Yongzhong, an artist from Jiangxi Province, China.

Ha Noi's Ceramic Road work was done by 20 Vietnamese artists and 15 foreign artists from 10 countries, 500 Vietnamese and overseas children, 50 fine arts students and more than 100 ceramic handicraft artisans and workers from all over the nation.

The work has been in progress since March, 2007, using the best ceramic materials from villages throughout the country, such as Bat Trang, Phu Lang, Chu Dau, Binh Duong, Vinh Long and Bau Truc.

It will be completed by September 25 as a work to celebrate Ha Noi's millennium celebration.

Thuy, who is also a journalist, was recently named among 10 typical citizens who have made great contributions to the city. — VNS
