Thai film breaks box office records in China

BANGKOK -- A heartwarming Thai film titled “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” has taken the Chinese box office by storm, earning around 100 million THB within its first 24 hours of release.

The comedy-drama, produced by GDH and directed by Pat Boonipat, debuted on August 23 and quickly climbed to No. 5 in China's box office rankings.

Opening day takings reached 15.6 million CNY (74.5 million THB), and by the end of the day, the film's earnings had surpassed 21 million yuan.

The film tells the story of a young man named Tong, who initially seeks to inherit his grandmother's fortune but ends up discovering the true value of family and relationships.

The touching narrative has resonated with Chinese audiences, who have praised the movie for its emotional portrayal of the bond between a grandson and his ailing grandmother.

In addition to its success in China, the film has also performed well in Southeast Asia, grossing 339 million THB in Thailand, 300 million THB in Indonesia, 116.6 million THB in Malaysia and Brunei, 106 million THB in Singapore, and 72.9 million THB in Việt Nam.

The film is set to open in the United States on September 13, followed by releases in the Netherlands on October 10 and Belgium on November 13.

GDH also plans to screen the film in the Republic of Korea, the UK, Ireland, and India. The movie will begin streaming on Netflix in Southeast Asia starting September 12. -- VNA/VNS
