Theatre restores royal court music

HUE (VNS)— The Royal Hue Traditional Arts Theatre has continued to collect and restore several lost pieces of royal court music since the form was recognised by UNESCO in 2003 as World Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The theatre has collected, choreographed and performed some 40 ritual music pieces and typical dances, including Luc Cung Hoa Dang (Lantern Dance), Nu Tuong Xuat Quan (Women Generals Go into Battle), and Lan Mau Xuat Lan Nhi (A Unicorn Gives Birth).

The restored pieces would be performed as part of a bid to attract more visitors to the former capital city, said the theatre's director, Truong Tan Hai. The Cung Ai royal court piece, once performed only during the funerals of the royal family, will be performed at the Duyet Thi Duong Theatre in June, Hai said.

The theatre has also collected and restored the piece Thai Binh Co Nhac (Thai Binh Ancient Music) once performed during offerings of sacrifices at the royal court, he said.-VNS
