HA NOI — Viet Nam has beaten South Korea, Thailand, China and Malaysia to be named Asia’s Leading Destination at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2018 (WTA).
The WTA, launched in 1993 to acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry, is known as ‘the Oscar of the travel industry’.
The awards are held annually to honour the best service providers in the fields of travel and tourism.
Winners are chosen after votes by the public and travel professionals worldwide.
“The award helps to enhance the image of Viet Nam tourism, especially in the context of increasing competition like today,” Ha Van Sieu, vice chairman of the Viet Nam Administration of Tourism, said.
Sieu said this is also a perfect motivation for Viet Nam’s tourism sector to develop more and fully tap into potentials while increasing tourism growth and contributing to the development of the country.
“With a diverse natural resource, the hospitability of people and the joint efforts of investors and businesses, Viet Nam deserves this recognition,” Sieu said.
“In the future, we are confident we can make Viet Nam the leading destination of not only Asia but also the world,” he added.
Viet Nam’s hotels, resorts, tour operator and airline also won big at the WTA. Vietnam Airlines was named Asia’s Leading Airline - Premium Economy Class; Naman Retreat for Asia’s Leading Retreat and Vietravel for Asia’s Leading Tour Operator.
The luxury resort InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, won several accolades including Asia’s Leading Luxury Resort, Asia’s Leading Green Resort, Asia’s Leading Luxury Wedding Resort and Viet Nam’s Leading Luxury Resort.
“To be honoured again in this year’s World Travel Awards is a result of the world-class service and superlative experiences we deliver to our guests as well as the fantastic vision from our Owners who built the most impressive Resort in the region,” said Juan Losada, General Manager of InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort said at the ceremony on September 3.
“Noteworthy, the “Asia’s Leading Green Resort” accolade has signified our effort in maintaining the sustainable development of the resort and in protecting the ecosystem of the Son Tra Peninsula that we have the privilege to be located in,” he added.
