Duẩn wins stage, Eerd wears yellow jersey

HA NOI — With a strong showing in the final sprint, veteran racer Le Van Duan of VUS-TP.HCM beat a formidable group of rivals to the line to win the sixth stage of the VTV International Cycling Tournament – Ton Hoa Sen Cup yesterday.

Duan won the 162 km stage from Dong Hoi to Hue with a time of 3:34.15. His average speed was over 45 kmh. Arin Iswana of Indonesia’s PGN and David Van Eerd of Netherlands’ Global finished second and third.

With his third place finish, Eerd took the yellow leader’s jersey from Hanoian Nguyen Dac Thoi.

Eerd also retained the green jersey as the race’s best sprinter with 92 points, followed by Im Jaeyeon of South Korea’s Korail (77 points) and Tran Nguyen Duy Nhan of Military Zone 7 (50 points).

The white jersey for the best placed young cyclist went to Thoi of Ha Noi. The red king of the mountain jersey was worn by El Joshua Carino of the Philippine’s NSI.

The team rankings were unchanged. Loc Troi Group lead with the overall best time of 48:45.34, followed by Bike Life Dong Nai and Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap.

Stage seven, 111 km from Hue to Da Nang, will take place today. The red jersey competition will be decided on the mountain passes of Phuoc Tuong, Phu Gia and Hai Van. — VNS
