HÀ NỘI — HCM City triumphed at the National Youth Chess Tournament which concluded in the northern port city of Hải Phòng over the weekend.
The team brought home 15 golds, eight silvers and 12 bronzes to take the lead. Hà Nội were runners-up with six golds, seven silvers and six bronzes. Quảng Ninh came third with three golds and one silver.
Notably, Nguyễn Quốc Hy, Lê Minh Hoàng, Tống Thái Hoàng Ân, Đặng Lê Xuân Hòa and Bạch Ngọc Thùy Dương won two gold medals each for HCM City.
The event attracted the participation of 300 players from 25 teams across the country.
They competed in the men’s and women’s events in the standard, rapid and blitz chess categories in various age groups.
The nine-day event provided an opportunity for the national youth team to scout the country’s best players in preparation for upcoming domestic and world competitions. It also aimed to promote chess playing and practice among juniors and students. — VNS
